Cyber Essentials Certification without the uncertainty
Understanding the Cyber Essentials requirements can sometimes feel more complicated than completing the assessment itself.
Which devices should be included? Does your home working equipment fall within scope? Are your cloud services configured correctly? Is all your software still supported? Do your user permissions and security update processes meet the required standard?
TwentyFour can help you answer these questions, identify any gaps and create a clear route towards certification.
As an official Certification Body, we can support your organisation from initial preparation through to formal assessment and certification. IASME confirms that Certification Bodies are specially trained cyber security companies licensed and assured to assess organisations and issue Cyber Essentials certification.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed cyber security certification developed by the National Cyber Security Centre.
It is the minimum cyber security standard recommended by the Government for organisations of every size and is designed to protect businesses against the most common internet-based cyber threats.
The assessment focuses on five essential technical controls:
Firewalls
Firewalls help prevent unauthorised access to your devices, networks and business systems.
Secure Configuration
Security Update/Patch Management
User Access Control
Malware Protection
What is Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials Plus is the highest level of certification available through the Cyber Essentials scheme.
It is based on the same five technical controls as Cyber Essentials, but includes an independent technical assessment to verify that those controls have been implemented correctly.
The Cyber Essentials Plus audit can include external and internal vulnerability scans, tests on a representative sample of user devices and checks covering internet-facing systems and gateways. This provides a higher level of assurance than the verified Cyber Essentials self-assessment.
Cyber Essentials Plus may be particularly valuable for businesses that handle sensitive information, operate within regulated sectors or need to provide stronger security assurance to customers, insurers and supply chain partners.
What is the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials is a verified self-assessment. Your organisation completes a questionnaire covering its IT environment and security controls, which is reviewed by a qualified Assessor.
Cyber Essentials Plus begins with the same verified assessment but adds an independent technical audit of your systems.
The controls are the same at both levels. The difference is the amount of assurance provided.
Cyber Essentials
Cyber Essentials is suitable for organisations that want to establish a recognised cyber security baseline, meet customer requirements and demonstrate that essential protections are in place.
Cyber Essentials Plus
Why become Cyber Essentials certified?
Cyber Essentials gives your business a recognised way to demonstrate that important cyber security controls have been implemented.
Certification can help you strengthen protection against common attacks, reassure customers and provide evidence of your security standards during procurement, tendering and supplier reviews.
A growing number of organisations require their suppliers to hold Cyber Essentials before they can bid for work. The National Cyber Security Centre also recommends Cyber Essentials as the minimum security standard organisations should achieve.
Cyber Essentials certification can help your business:
Reduce Common Cyber Security Weaknesses
The assessment can expose unsupported software, missing security updates, excessive administrator access and insecure configurations before they are exploited.
Build Customer Confidence
Meet Contractual Requirements
Improve Security Visibility
Support Wider Compliance Goals
How can TwentyFour support your certification journey?
Every business has a different starting point. Some organisations may already meet much of the standard, while others may need to address unsupported systems, unmanaged devices or inconsistent security controls.
TwentyFour provides a clear and structured certification journey based on your environment and the level of support you require.
1 - Understand Your Requirements
We begin by discussing why you need certification, the level you want to achieve and any customer, contractual or tender deadlines involved.
2 - Define The Assessment Scope
3 - Review Your Readiness
4 - Address Any Gaps
5 - Complete The Assessment
6 - Achieve Certification
Maintain Certification with Compliance Management
Cyber Essentials should not become a once-a-year scramble to gather information and correct problems before renewal.
Your technology environment changes throughout the year. Employees join and leave, devices are replaced, software reaches the end of support and new cloud services are introduced. Each change can affect your certification readiness.
By combining Cyber Essentials certification with ongoing Compliance Management from TwentyFour, your business can maintain stronger cyber security and remain better prepared for annual renewal.
Our ongoing support can include:
Asset and Software Visibility
Maintain accurate information about the devices, operating systems, applications and cloud services used throughout your business.
Security Update Management
